Sunday, 29th March 2009
Organised by Sparsh Yog India in collaboration with Art of Living
On 29th March 2009, Sparsh Yog India organized its first free eye camp for the needy in the semi rural area of Badli Village with the collaboration of Art of Living, Shalimar Bagh Chapter. It was the coming together of like minded NGO’s for a common cause - to help bring medical facilities to those who need it the most.
The camp duration was 9 am to 1 pm. It was open to all. Free of cost operation of Cataract, Pterigium, Glaucoma and other such diseases of the eye was the highlight of the camp. Dr. Chadha of Chadha Medical and Social Welfare Society and his team of doctors and technicians presided over the eye camp.
The camp was attended by 221 people of practically all age group. Eye check-up and ophthalmic medicines were given to all those who came by Dr. Chadha, the Ophthalmologist presiding over the camp. Those who were short-listed by the Doctor for operation were instantly checked for sugar and blood pressure, there by saving the patients a trip to another doctor for the same.
Ten patients were operated upon the same day while other patients were allotted dates (viz 30th March, 1st April and 5th April) for operation. Thus, in all 45 patients were identified to be operated upon for various diseases of the eye.
It was heartening to see the elderly people who had managed to come to the camp assisted by either their sons or grandchildren and avail the treatment.
The success of the camp is in this that we were able to bring medical facility within the reach of those who needed it most urgently. Seeing the response of the people of Badli village and the area, it was decided to organize another eye camp in six months time.
